The Long Run 2026

0%

I’m making prostate cancer history.

Mudgee - Castle Rocks trail, Munghorn Gap

A fairly level run with great views from Castle Rocks at the end of the trail. Over half way through the Long Run for Prostate Cancer which we are doing at each one of our stops from Broken Hill back to Sydney.

Peak Hill Men’s Shed and Gold Mine

We planned a run around the Gold Mine near this beautiful mid-NSW town. Then we parked across the road from the Men’s Shed. They have a nice shed with plenty of space for the guys to use three times per week.

The run took in a trail around a public gardens that didn’t even feature on the Map as well as the old mine from 1888 and the new one from 2000. Between 2000 and 2001 they removed 360,000 tonnes of rock to find 340kg of Gold.  It’s a shame that a cure for Prostate Cancer cannot be done as easily, but maybe we can help a little with our run.

Broken Hill Sculptures

After a couple more treadmill runs we took a road trip to Broken Hill. En-route we stopped at Mudgee for a short run along the Goulburn river, then when we arrived at Broken Hill, we camped near the Sculpture Park just North of the Town. Early mornings are the only time to run here. The desert is green at the moment and the Roos and Emus are having a good life, and wild flowers have sprung up.

Not letting Angina get in the way

I have started my run with 10km on 1st September on a treadmill.  I find that I can control things better indoors where I can run while staying within the heartrate boundary I have set by increasing or reducing incline and speed.  That said, my second run was on 2nd September and was 9km around Narrabeen Lake at a fairly slow pace.  It is good to see that some of my friends and former colleagues are also doing theLONGrun.
