Frequently Asked Questions

The Long Run FAQs

What is The Long Run?

This September, we are asking you to run, walk or wheel 72Km to raise funds and awareness for Aussie men and their families who are dealing with a prostate cancer diagnosis.

Improve your overall health and wellbeing by challenging yourself this September.

Together we can make sure our fathers, brothers, sons, husbands and mates will be there for the long run.

Who can take part?

Everyone!

Whether you’re an individual, a workplace, a team, a bunch of mates, or an entire sports club – registering and getting involved in The Long Run is easier than you might think.

We want everyone to be able to help love go the distance. That’s why we’re also celebrating Father’s Day on 6th September with a special 4km activity.

Run, walk or wheel it as part of your personal challenge, and invite family and friends to join you.

Together we can all reduce the impact of prostate cancer on the men we love.

If you are under 18 and want to do 72km please email thelongrun@pcfa.org.au and one of our friendly team will explain how to get your guardians consent before you get started.

How much does it cost to register?

It’s completely free to register and participate.

How does it work?

From the moment you register, we’ll be with you each step of the way supporting you and providing you with motivational tips to keep you going!

  1. Register online to set up your personal fundraising page.
  2. Let your friends, family and workplace know you are taking on The Long Run challenge.
  3. Ask for support through donations and sponsorship.
  4. Get outside to log your kilometres and go for it!

When and where is The Long Run?

The Long Run is an online fitness challenge which runs for one month from 1-30 September.

You decide where and when to complete your challenge throughout the month of September.

Please note: fundraising can start as soon as you register and is open until 16 October 2020.

What do I have to do?

Across the month of September challenge yourself to run, walk or wheel 72km and raise funds to support Aussie men and their families impacted by prostate cancer.

Where do the funds go that I raise?

All funds will go to Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and will be used to directly support men diagnosed with prostate cancer, to create better awareness of diagnosis and treatment options, and to research ways to minimise the impact of prostate cancer on Australian men and their families.

Are donations tax deductible?

Donations of $2 or more to Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia are tax-deductible in Australia.

Is there a minimum amount I have to raise?

There is a minimum fundraising target of $100 and no maximum amount that you have to raise!

We just ask you to do your best. Every dollar you raise this September will get us closer to a world where prostate cancer is no longer a burden, where side effects are minimal and where all men and their families with a diagnosis are supported.

Together, we will help love go the distance.

If you’re stuck on how to boost your fundraising, please give us a call on 1800 22 00 99 or email us at thelongrun@pcfa.org.au

How do I update my fundraising goal?

Login to your The Long Run account and head to your dashboard. Click on ‘Edit my page’ and update your fundraising goal.

How do I bank any offline fundraising money I raise?

The best way to bank any offline fundraising money is through your online fundraising page with your own credit card.

Deposit the money into your bank account and then make the transaction directly onto your page using your credit card.

You can even make multiple transactions and add each donor's name and their individual messages to you.

Your total fundraising amount will then be shown on your page.

How do I log my distance online with Strava, Fitbit or MapMyFitness?

Your profile page includes your personal distance tally so you can track your distance towards your target. This is a great way to keep your friends updated on your workouts!

Please note, on 1 September everyone’s distance tracking will return to 0km as this is the official start date of the challenge.

If you track your workouts with Fitbit, Strava or MapMyFitness your distances will automatically add to your tally. If you do not use one of these apps you can also log your fitness activities manually.

Follow these steps to track your KMs automatically:

  1. Download the Fitbit, Strava or MapMyFitness app and set up your account
  2. Log in to your account on The Long Run and in your Dashboard go to the My Fitness Activity page.
  3. Under the heading ‘Connect your preferred Fitness app’, click your chosen app.
  4. Follow the prompts to connect your account
  5. When you next work out, select ‘start your workout’ in the app on your phone. Once you end your workout, save your workout and your distance will be published to the tally on your page the following day.

If you have synced your app already but it is not working, please log in and re-connect it.

When using Fitbit, you must ‘start’ an activity and save it. Your daily steps will not automatically add to your page. If you are having issues, try syncing through BOTH your Fitbit and the Fitbit app on your smartphone.

Your tally will be updated each day with the previous day’s distances.

What do I do if my fitness app is connected but my data is still not showing on my page?

If you have synced your app already but it is not working, please log in to your fundraising dashboard and reconnect with the fitness app.

How long does it take for my preferred fitness app to sync?

It may take up to 24 hours for your fitness data to sync with your fundraising dashboard. If this has not occurred, please attempt relinking your app and adding any missed workouts manually on the “My Fitness Activity” page.

How do I log my distance online manually?

You can manually add your kilometres to the tally in your My Fitness Activity tab of your profile after registering. This is a great option if you’re using a pedometer or a different method of tracking your distances.

Please note, on 1 September everyone’s distance tracking will return to 0km as this is the official start date of the challenge.

Follow these steps to manually add your KMs:

  1. Log in to your account and select ‘My Fitness Activity’
  2. Under ‘Add activity’, enter the date and distance
  3. The number of KMs will now appear on your fundraising page!

Can I start recording my kilometres in the lead up to September?

As The Long Run takes place in September, it is only then that you will be able to track your steps. However, we encourage you to get out and start getting some practice in before September!

What resources are available?

We want to make fundraising easy, so we have some great resources to help you do that.

Your best tool is your online fundraising page which is easy to set up and easy to share. Your online fundraising page is the best way to get donations and spread the word about your fundraiser - The Long Run.

Use the dashboard on your fundraising page to download tips and tools, kilometre tracker, event posters and social posts. All of these are available to help make your challenge a success.

Can I post my photos or details on Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia’s social media pages?

Definitely! We’d love to see what you’re up to. You can post your photos directly onto our Facebook and Twitter pages and tag us in stories and posts on Instagram with @pcfa1. Don't forget to use the hashtag #TheLongRun so we can like, share or retweet your post!

Who do I contact if I have any other questions?

We're always here to help. Give us a call on 1800 22 00 99 or email us at thelongrun@pcfa.org.au.

We are also available on our social media channels. Get in touch!

I've shared my page on Facebook asking for donations using the Facebook Donate button. Will the funds I raise come to Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia?

Yes, they will, however, we currently advise that you don’t use the Facebook Donate button to raise funds for your fundraiser as we can’t link any donations back to your fundraising page. If you’ve already set up a post, we ask that you:

  1. Delete the post, as this is the only way to remove the Facebook Donate button.
  2. Create a new Facebook post and share the link to your fundraising page without adding the ‘Donate’ button.

Why aren't the donations that I'm receiving through Facebook showing up on my fundraising page?

Facebook donations are handled and held by a third party, so we can’t sync these donations with The Long Run campaign due to limitations with the Facebook Donate button functionality. Given these limitations, we advise you not to use the Facebook Donate button to raise funds.

If you’d like your friends and family to donate to you, we encourage you to share the link to your fundraising page instead.

Do I need a personal fundraising page and a team page?

Yes. If you’re creating a team with your family, friends or colleagues then you will each need a personal fundraising page to participate and track your kilometres. Those not getting involved can donate to your personal page or team page.

Does each team need a captain?

Each team will need a designated captain, who can send people the link to join, and also manage the team page’s fundraising target and blog posts. This is often the person who set up the team. If for any reason the team captain may need to change, please contact us at thelongrun@pcfa.org.au or on 1800 22 00 99.

How do I create a team?

You can create a team when you first register – it’s part of our simple 3 step registration process. Alternatively, you can go to your Fundraising “Dashboard” and select the “CREATE A TEAM” section, and follow the prompts.

How does someone join my team once it’s set up?

You simply go to the “MY TEAM” section and you can share the link to join your team from the “Invite others to join My Team“ section. From here they will be directed to either “Create an account” or “Login” to their existing account.

Can I change my team name?

Yes. It’s possible to change your team name and link, however, any links you’ve previously shared will not work. If you are having difficulties with this or urgently need to change your team name, please contact us at thelongrun@pcfa.org.au or on 1800 22 00 99.

Can I change my team fundraising target?

Yes. You simply go to the “MY TEAM” section and then the “Team Page Settings” tab, where you can adjust your team's fundraising target. To find out how to adjust your personal fundraising target, head to your Dashboard.

How do I add the official Facebook frame to my Facebook profile picture?

You can add a frame to your profile picture to show your support for The Long Run.

To add a frame to your profile picture:
