We're making prostate cancer history
We’re taking on The Long Run!
There’s a family legend that never gets old. Dad, mum, a 13 and an 11-year-old, high on a ridge somewhere on Tasmania’s wild South Coast Track, looking down at a beach that was clearly still hours away.
Dad, drawing on a hazy memory of the track from decades earlier, announces we can take a shortcut. “Quick run down to the beach,” he says, full of confidence.
It was not quick. It was not a run. It was slow, hard and in the days before EPIRBs. But it’s a story we love and fondly recall because it says everything about our old man: fiercely in love with Tasmania’s wild places, endlessly keen to share them, and just a little bit cavalier about whether our legs (and mum’s patience) were up to the task. We’re forever grateful he dragged us out there and nurtured a deep connection to place within us.
This September, for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, we’re giving it all we’ve got and taking part in The Long Run. Dad died at 72, so the foundations 72km challenge seemed like the perfect call to action — one kilometre for every year he had.
Prostate cancer is Australia’s most diagnosed cancer, with 79 men newly diagnosed every day. Will you donate today to help Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia end the pain of prostate cancer?
