The Long Run 2024

I’m making prostate cancer history.

October and still walking

I'm still keen to walk and see that I can still add to my Long Run page. Thank you to those who have just donated in early October. I'm still averaging around 10 km a day and finding it gets so much easier to do. Definately helping my body recover from hormone treatment. I pray my testosterone production kick starts soon - I'd love to see some muscle recovery 💪👍

Final day of the Long Run

The support provided by the PCFA was the incentive for me to attempt to complete the Long Run I have gained so much in the way of stamina and have amazed myself with being able to complete 330km for the month. I just want to thank each and everyone who has supported me and motivated me to change my targets both with my fundraising and distance.  Thank you to my walking buddies for the company on the way.  Next goal is to start rebuilding the lost muscle mass caused by the treatment.  Thank you PCFA for the opportunity to join the Long Run and look forward to participating next year.💪💪

Week 4

My goal of walking 288km plus for The Long Run is in sight. I completed  my 9 km circuit this morning and only my toes are feeling it😀. Leanne & I started a Social Lunch for fellow cancer patients, families and friends and any one else who would like to come along. It's not a "medical thing" but somewhere we can forget the difficult days and just talk about the fun days and enjoy the company. Held every Thursday from 12 noon at Club Toowoomba ( formally South Toowoomba Bowls Club) 331 Hume St Toowoomba. This week will be 17 weeks in a row. If you are unsure just ask the bar staff to point us out. All very welcome
Well it's Friday and I just completed 11km to smash my personal  target of 288km for the month.

Week 3

144kms done & dusted in the first 2 weeks. Now setting a weekly target of 72km for 4 weeks. Actually getting easier to do the KMs knowing the support I'm recieving. Thank you all so so much. I'll need some new joggers soon😀

Week 2

I have completed the 72km in week 1by doing dedicated walks each morning and afternoon and now am aiming to double it and hit 144km by the end of September.  I have hit my fundraising goal 3 times and have raised it again, let's see where we get to. Thanks for all the support out there. Having got a late diagnosis, getting the message out there is as important to me as the fundraising.  Early diagnosis makes such a difference so make sure you are getting tested and know your PSA score.

Week 1

I am amazed, one week down and I have hit the 72kms mark averaging about 10km walk each day.  Thanks to all those who have donated, and thanks to Ben, John, Lesleigh and Leanne who have joined me along the way.  A very special thanks to PCFA Nurse Kirsty (SA) whose wonderful help (she listened, informed, encouraged and most of all showed compassion, empathy and true care) inspired me to do this for the PCFA and to raise awareness. I wish I had been aware of the help PCFA can provide at the start of my ordeal but am so grateful for the help they have given and can only encourage men out there to get tested and reach out to the PCFA.

Day 2

A month ago I wouldn't have been able to do these distances,  but thanks to friends who kindly let us dog sit their beautiful Tilly, I started walking and that has given me the encouragement to go for the 72km and raise funds for PCFA who have been so supportive to us.

I’m taking on The Long Run

This September for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, I’m giving it all I’ve got by taking part in The Long Run.

Prostate cancer is Australia’s leading cause of cancer, with 72 men newly diagnosed every day.

Will you donate today to raise funds for Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and help end the pain of prostate cancer? Together, we can make prostate cancer history.

Thank you. 💙🙏
